Anti-Trash Costume Bash!

This Halloween, Arizona State University (ASU) students will be dressing up in some pretty trashy costumes. To promote litter-free highways and to spread the message, Dont Trash Arizona, ASU students are being invited to compete in an Anti-Trash Costume Bash featuring costumes made almost completely from recyclable materials. Prizes include a first-place prize of $500 for both the individual and team categories.

The Earth-friendly Halloween event is being organized by the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) in conjunction with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and Arizona State University. Participants must register at: www.asu.edu/studentaffairs/mu/anti-trash/ by October 26, 2007.

During the contest, student entrants will showcase their hand-crafted costumes built from some of the most common recyclable materials found along Valley freeways, such as plastic, cardboard, Styrofoam, and paper. At least 90 percent of each costume must be made from recyclable materials.

To participate, students must be 17 years or older with a valid ASU ID. Contestants must provide a 200-word max description of the materials used in the costume. The Team Costume category is represented by only one person wearing the costume but an unlimited number of participants can design and build the costume entry.

Costumes must be appropriate in nature. MAG reserves the right to disqualify participants. Judges decision is final. Contest participants must sign video production release form. MAG/ADOT employees and families are not eligible to participate. Space is limited, so register now!

Representatives from MAG, ADOT, and ASU will serve as judges for the contest. Entries will be scored on innovative use of recyclable materials, costume design and creativity. Organizers hope the Anti-Trash Costume Bash will garner student support of Dont Trash Arizonas efforts to reduce litter statewide.
